Loading Label Rolls

Track: Scanner Care & Troubleshooting

Label Specifications

The Monarch 6059+ uses 2" x 2" adhesive labels with 300 labels per roll. These are thermal direct labels -- the printer uses heat to create the image, so no ink or ribbon is needed.

Each label has a black mark on the back that the printer sensor uses to detect where one label ends and the next begins. This is how the printer knows exactly where to print and where to cut between labels.

Step-by-Step: Loading a New Roll

Step 1: Open the Label Compartment

Hold the scanner in one hand. With your other hand, press the release latch on the top of the scanner and lift open the label cover. The cover hinges forward, exposing the label compartment and print head.

Step 2: Remove the Empty Roll

If there is an empty core or spent roll inside, remove it. Pull the empty core straight up and out of the compartment.

Step 3: Insert the New Roll

Place the new label roll into the compartment with the labels feeding from the bottom of the roll. The adhesive side of the label should face down (toward the print head). Make sure the roll sits flat and centered in the compartment.

Important:

If the labels are loaded upside down, the printer will print on the backing instead of the label face. If your labels come out blank, try flipping the roll.

Step 4: Feed the Labels Through

Pull the leading label forward through the print area and out the front of the scanner. The label should feed smoothly between the print head and the platen roller.

Step 5: Close the Cover

Press the label cover firmly closed until you hear it click into place. The cover must be fully closed for the printer to operate.

Step 6: Feed and Align

After closing the cover, the scanner may automatically feed one or two labels to align. If it does not, you can press the Feed button in the printer settings to advance to the next label. This ensures the print head is lined up with the black mark sensor.

Tip:

After loading a new roll, print a test label to make sure everything looks correct. Use Part Inquiry to scan any part, then print a label. If the print is not aligned, see the Printer Troubleshooting lesson for calibration steps.

Common Issues When Loading Labels

Labels jam during loading

Make sure you are pulling the leading label straight forward through the print area. Do not force it at an angle. If a label sticks, open the cover and carefully remove any stuck labels or adhesive residue.

Labels print blank

The roll may be loaded upside down. Open the cover and flip the roll so the label face (not the backing) faces the print head.

Labels skip or print off-center

The black mark sensor may need to be recalibrated after loading a new roll. Go to Settings > Printer Setting > Printer Setup > Supply > Calibrate Black Mark Sensor. See the Printer Troubleshooting lesson for detailed steps.

Cover will not close

Check that the roll is sitting flat in the compartment and not blocking the cover. Make sure no labels are bunched up or sticking out at an angle.
