PickIt: Order Picking
Order Fulfillment Track
What is PickIt?
PickIt is the order fulfillment module in ScanIt Parts. It handles the complete workflow from the moment a customer order is created in your DMS through picking, packing, and delivery. This lesson covers the first step: picking parts from the shelves using your scanner.
Orders flow into PickIt automatically from your DMS. When a parts counter creates an order, it appears on your scanner as a pick task. Your job is to walk to the right bins, scan and verify each part, and confirm the quantities.
The Three Picking Modes
PickIt offers three ways to pick orders. Each is designed for a different situation:
Smart Pick
Smart Pick is the most efficient method. The system analyzes all pending orders and creates an optimized walking path through the warehouse, minimizing your travel time. You may pick parts for multiple orders at the same location since Smart Pick groups picks from nearby bins together.
- Select Smart Pick from the PickIt menu on your scanner.
- Review the pick list showing total parts and estimated time.
- Follow the on-screen directions to each bin location.
- Scan the bin barcode to confirm you are at the correct location.
- Scan each part barcode as you pick it from the bin.
- Confirm the quantity if more than one is needed.
- Move to the next location when prompted.
Smart Pick groups picks from nearby bins together, so you may pick parts for multiple orders at the same stop. The system tracks which parts go to which orders automatically.
Key Smart Pick features:
- Optimized routing -- minimizes walking distance between bins
- Multi-order picking -- pick for multiple customers in one trip
- Bin verification -- scan the bin barcode to confirm location before picking
- Progress tracking -- see completion percentage and remaining items on screen
Pick by Invoice
Pick by Invoice focuses on one customer order at a time. Use this when a specific order needs immediate attention, such as when a customer is waiting at the counter or when an order is marked as priority.
- Select Pick by Invoice from the PickIt menu.
- Scan the invoice barcode or search for the invoice number.
- The scanner displays all parts on this order with their bin locations.
- Go to each bin and scan the part as you pick it.
- Confirm quantities and mark the order complete when all parts are picked.
Pick by Invoice is ideal when a customer is waiting at the counter, when an order is marked as priority, or when you need to fulfill a specific order immediately.
Pick to Route
Pick to Route collects all orders assigned to a specific delivery route. This is the most efficient method when preparing for scheduled deliveries because you pick everything going on the same truck in one pass.
- Select Pick to Route from the PickIt menu.
- Select the delivery route from the list.
- The scanner displays all parts for all orders on this route.
- Follow the optimized path through the warehouse.
- Scan each bin and part as you pick.
- Mark the route pick as complete when finished.
How Picks Arrive on Your Scanner
When a parts counter creates a customer order in your DMS, the order automatically flows into PickIt. Depending on your dealership's configuration, orders may be assigned to routes or appear in the general pick queue. The PickIt Monitor (accessible from the web interface) gives managers a real-time view of all pending, in-progress, and completed picks.
Scan Verification
Every scan during picking is verified by the system:
- Green confirmation -- correct part, proceed with the pick.
- Red alert -- wrong part scanned. Do not pick. Verify you are at the correct bin.
- Quantity prompt -- if more than one unit is needed, enter the quantity.
If you see a red alert, stop and verify. You may be at the wrong bin, or the part may have been placed in the wrong location. Never pick a part that shows a red alert.
Handling Pick Issues
Sometimes a part cannot be picked as expected. PickIt handles these situations:
- Part not in bin -- Mark the item as "Not Found." The system flags it for investigation and the order shows as partially picked.
- Quantity short -- Enter the actual quantity available. The system records the shortage.
- Damaged part -- Skip the item and note the condition. A replacement can be sourced.
Duplicate Pick Safeguards
The system automatically prevents duplicate picks on the same invoice. If a part has already been picked for an order, you will see a warning and the system will not allow it to be picked again. This works across all three picking methods.
Completing a Pick
Once all parts for an order (or route) are picked, the system marks the order as ready for packing. The next step in the fulfillment process is PackIt, where picked parts are placed into shipping containers and verified before dispatch.
Quick Reference
- Smart Pick: Menu → Smart Pick → Start → Follow path → Scan bin → Scan part → Confirm qty → Repeat
- By Invoice: Menu → Pick by Invoice → Scan invoice → Go to bins → Scan & pick → Complete
- To Route: Menu → Pick to Route → Select route → Follow path → Scan & pick → Complete
New Feature -- Print History & Dispatch Tabs: Tap the clock icon in the top bar to review recent print jobs at any time. After picking, the Dispatch screen now uses a tabbed layout with a Scans tab for truck bin scanning and an Invoices tab for invoice management. Swipe left on any part or invoice to remove it from the dispatch list.
